If you fancied buying an Infiniti Q50, you were not faced with too many choices in the drivetrain department. There were just two options: a 2,2d; and a 3,5 V6 petrol hybrid. However, the brand has just extended the range with the addition of a 2,0-litre turbopetrol.
The lightweight inline four develops 155 kW of power and 350 N.m of torque – the latter from 1 250 – 3 500 r/min. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed automatic transmission.
And this is just the start of the Infiniti’s expansion plans as the Japanese luxury arm of Nissan plans increase its model range by 60% and more than double the number of available powertrains over the next five years.
As is expected, the new model will be chock-full of features though buyers will be able to choose between two trim levels – Premium and Sport, priced from R430 000 and R477 000 respectively.
You can read a driving impression of the new model on this site in the next few days.
