UPDATE: Nissan has released another two teaser videos (top two) before the full reveal of the new Nissan Navara. This time it actually shows quite a bit of the bakkie, although only parts of the interior. Judging by the video, the infotainment system will offer luxuries such as satellite navigation, a hard drive to store music files as well as connection slots for USB drive and possibly for your smartphone as well. Dual-zone climate control will also be on offer.
Nissan has used Twitter and YouTube to create some excitement around an upcoming new member to its family. The company confirmed that this “all-new pickup” will be unveiled on 11 June.
Although no further information is available, it is quite clear that it will be the replacement for the Nissan Navara. Part of the new bakkie’s launch, is Nissan’s celebration of building bakkies for 80 years, shown in the video below.
The local bakkie market has been relatively quiet for the past year, but we can expect some excitement when the new Navara is eventually launched in South Africa. This new bakkie will first be launched in Thailand though.
However, a spokesperson for Nissan South Africa confirmed that the company is planning to start manufacturing a 1-tonne bakkie at its Rosslyn plant in the future. Whether it will be the new Navara is unclear at this stage.
