The popular Jeep Wrangler range has received a timely update that includes an all-new interior treatment, upgraded safety features, a revised diesel engine option, and new body-coloured hardtop roof for Sahara models.
Both the Wrangler and long-wheelbase, four-door, Wrangler Unlimited models feature a redesigned instrument panel, standard multi-function steering wheel, electrically-adjustable heated seats, and a selection of new storage options. Careful attention has been paid to improving cabin insulation and reducing road noise levels. A larger rear window has also been added for improved visibility.
Standard ESC stability control, featuring three selectable modes; full on, full off, and partial off, has been added to the range, and complements hill-hold and trailer-sway control (TSC) systems.
A new 2,8-litre turbodiesel “Cheetah” engine replaces the outgoing “Panther” generation and offers 147 kW (a 12 per cent improvement) and 460 N.m of torque. Mated with a five-speed automatic transmission, Jeep claims this engine can happily run on 500 ppm diesel fuel, while returning a combined fuel consumption of just 8,1 litres/100 km, with emissions at 213 g/km.
Popular Wrangler Sahara models, with their removable hard-, and fold-away soft-top roof configurations, also feature the second-generation Command-Trac, part-time, two-speed transfer case with 2,72:1 low-range gear ratio.
