Hyundai and Kia are developing more sportscars. Following Hyundai’s first attempt in the form of the Veloster, the first pictures of Kia’s hot hatch have surfaced.
Called the Kia pro_cee’d GT, it boasts a 1,6-litre turbocharged petrol engine connected to a six-speed manual gearbox. It is rumoured that the engine will develop 149 kW and 265 N.m, enough to see the hatch reach 100 km/h from standstill in 7,9 seconds.
Although a little down on power and torque compared with Volkswagen’s Golf GTI, it is quite clear that in this case Kia is closing the gap on the establishment.
Apparently Kia’s first hot hatch will go into production in May, but unfortunately Kia Motors South Africa couldn’t confirm if the GT will be heading for our market.
