One of the supercar show stars at the recent Geneva motor show was Koenigsegg’s Agera R. At the time, full technical and performance details haven’t been released, but today we can give you the full details of this Swedish supercar.
The new 5,0-litre V8, with the help of two turbochargers running at 1,4 bar boost pressure, develops 831 kW at 6 900 r/min and maximum torque of 1 200 N.m at 4 100 r/min. Koenigsegg points out that over 1 000 N.m is already available between 2 700 r/min and 6 170 r/min. The redline is a fairly high for a turbocharged engine at 7 250 r/min.
All this power and torque helps the Agera R to reach 100 km/h from standstill in just 2,9 seconds, 200 km/h in 7,5 seconds while the run to 200 km/h and braking back to a standstill will only take 12,7 seconds. The top speed is just under 400 km/h, although the Michelin Supersport tyres are rated at up to 420 km/h.
This stratospheric performance requires powerful brakes. Up front there are 6-piston ventilated 397 x 40 mm ceramic discs and at the rear 4-piston ventilated 380 x 34 mm ceramic discs help rein in the Agera R.
It seems that no manual version is available as a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox drives the rear wheels. An electronic differential helps to put the power on the road. Purely for interest sake, the combined fuel consumption is 14,7 litres per 100 km.
Aerodynamics obviously play a huge role in the Agera's blistering performance. Depending on the adjustable rear wing, the drag coefficient differ from 0,33 to 0,37. This also helps with the total downforce at 250 km/h of 300 kg. With the carbon fibre and aluminium monocoque, Koenigsegg claims an incredible 65 000 N.m/degree of torsional rigidity.
The use of all these light weight materials helps to keep the Agera R's weight down – the dry weight is 1 330 kg while with all the fluids on board and half a tank of fuel the kerb weight creeps up to 1 435 kg .
Expect to pay in the region of R11 million for this supercar in Europe. Well, at least you get a 3 year warranty and quite possibly company founder Christian von Koenigsegg’s cell phone number…
