How much is enough? It seems certain manufacturers can never have enough of power and exclusivity. At this week’s Geneva Motor Show Koenigsegg will be showing off the newest addition to its stable, the Agera R.
Behind the cockpit sits a twin-turbo 5,0-litre V8 that develops a Veyron-beating 831 kW and 1 200 N.m – outputs that can only be attained if you feed the Agera with E85-biofuel. If your local fuel station doesn’t supply Ethanol, the Agera R will also be happy to swallow normal 95-octane petrol. Power will then decrease to a more (relatively) sedate 700 kW and 1 100 N.m. As has become the norm these days, the rear wheels are driven via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Because of the strong nature of the carbon-fibre monocoque, the removable roof panel of the car can be taken off to allow open air fun as well. This panel can then safely be stored in the front luggage compartment.
Despite the quirky additiona and outrageous power on offer, the Agera R isn’t just a display or show car. It will do duty on Koenigsegg’s stand at Geneva but has already been sold to a client who is a keen skier. That is why this car is fitted with a carbon-fibre roof box that will be able to hold all the necessary gear in place, although it will be interesting to see if said roof box survives a full-throttle blast!
As with most supercars it is the detail that matters. Take for instance the wheels, they are special vortex generating rims, apparently designed in such a way to assist with downforce. According to Koenigsegg the Michelin tyres on this model are the highest speed rated tyres, developed to handle velocities of up to 418 km/h.
