Lexus SA is set to launch its luxury hatchback in South Africa in August. The manufacturer claims the CT200h will be the first full hybrid to be launched in the small luxury-car segment.
According to the company, this new vehicle makes the Lexus brand more accessible to younger buyers with its upmarket packaging and low fuel consumption. The introduction of this model also expands the stable’s hybrid offering to four vehicles.
Designers and engineers were told to focus on elegance and sophistication. The result of this, Lexus claims, is a car that offers a dynamic quality with good driving characteristics, “superior” handling and a high level of comfort.
This hatchback features both a petrol and electric motor, and can run solely on one or the other, or both. Together, the 1,8-litre VVT-I petrol unit and electric motor deliver 100 kW of power. The CT200h has what Lexus describes as two driving moods – relaxing and dynamic. Selectable driving modes – normal, EV, eco and sport – aid these “moods”.
We will bring you more details closer to the local launch date.
