The fifth annual LIVEOUTLOUD Supercar Day at Kyalami was, as expected, a petrolhead’s dream the past weekend. Not only did an eclectic mix of Bentleys, Ferraris, Rolls-Royces, Porsches and McLarens formed part of the 300 supercars in attendance, but a new record was set.
To celebrate Aston Martin’s centenary, 62 models from this British manufacturer headed to the track to form part of the largest gathering of this brand in Africa at a same place at the same time. The oldest Aston Martin, and quite possibly one of the most valuable on the day, was a 1958 DB2/4 Mk III, still in its original condition, up to the latest 2013 Vanquish.
For attendees, and music lovers, another highlight included the surprise appearance of the frontman of Jamiroquai – and supercar owner and enthusiast – Jay Kay.
After he landed on the track with a helicopter, he jumped into straight into an Aston Martin V12 Vantage and headed off for a spin around the track.
