I’m quite excited about this vehicle. You might ask: “Really, because of a bakkie?” Let me explain. South Africa is a bakkie–mad nation. Not only do the sales charts indicate as much but around most braais and automotive discussions the focus moves towards off-road vehicles and bakkies.
My previous long-term vehicle, a Toyota Hilux Xtra Cab, was a 4×2 version whereas the Triton is a 4×4 with low-range. This immediately opens up several opportunities and challenging places I can drive to.
Equipped with a 3,2-litre turbodiesel engine (118 kW/343 N.m), the Triton has already covered over 1 000 km in our hands including a level 4 off-road course (more on this in a future update).
Check back soon (or follow me on Twitter) for more updates.
