After its discontinuation a few years ago, the Maybach name will relive again in a sub-brand for ultra-luxurious Mercedes models, just as AMG is a sub-brand for Mercedes’ high-performance models.
The new ‘Maybach’ will feature longer rear doors and an additional window on the trailing edge of the rear door. The extra twenty centimeters the car offers will primarily be used for more legroom in the rear.
To make the S-Class Maybach more distinctive, unique styling elements will be given to the lights, wheels and maybe the grille.
The expected range-topping S600 Maybach should feature Merc’s 5,5-litre V12 engine, whereas a 340 kW V8 should be offered in an S550 Maybach. Plans to feature a hybrid model are also under consideration. It is highly unlikely that the new Maybach will carry an AMG badge.
The new Maybach range is expected to come equipped with all the technologies featured in the 2014 S-Class. These features include the Steer Assist Autonomous system and Pre-Safe accident avoidance and harm minimization features, as well as driver weariness monitoring and the latest COMAND interface.
The expected price tag of the 2015 S-Class Maybach should make it a direct rival to the Bentley Flying Spur and Roll-Royce Ghost.
