We have seen several spy shots – even here in South Africa – of the new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. Said to replace the SLS AMG, the slightly smaller coupé will feature a 4,0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine.
Uptil now we have only seen heavily camouflaged test mules, but now Mercedes-Benz has revealed the first official pictures of the car, that of the interior.
There is definitely a few new design elements that we haven’t seen on previous Mercedes-Benz models. The combination of the AMG buttons, gear lever, touch pad and air-conditioning controls are new, although we have seen them separately in other models like Mercedes’s new C-Class. Also note the S-Class air vents with its carbon fibre surrounds.
Just below what seems to be the handle to open the sunroof, is a further row of buttons, including the hazard lights switch.
In true AMG fashion, huge parts of the cabin is trimmed in alcantara. It includes parts of the steering wheel, the A-pillars and the roof lining.
As has been the case with other AMG models, the GT will offer Race Start, and different settings for the transmission, suspension and ESP system.
To the right of the transmission lever, there also seems to be an exhaust button which means the driver will be able to pick between two levels of exhaust sound.
As the USA is a big and important market for AMG, we might see the official reveal taking place in the coming days.
