Since the demise of the SLS AMG, Mercedes-Benz has not had a performance halo model to challenge the top-flight sportcars … but on 9 September, that will change.
We reported on the development of the new model for some time (engine [and here], exhaust sound, interior details) as test and development mules have been spotted doing the rounds. Judging by the info in this video, it is likely that Mercedes-Benz could have been responsible for the images and video as the test teams were accompanied by videographers all the time, including what seems like a visit to sunny SA.
Not only does this video show us the unveil date but also that the GT will be available in various power levels ranging from 345 to 380 kW. Power is derived from an all-new, twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which will also do duty in the upcoming C63 AMG.
We haven’t seen this level of build up before the launch of a new sportscar for a while, which shows how big a deal this car is for Mercedes-AMG. The launch will take place at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca after the unveiling at the Paris Motor Show.
