Mercedes-Benz’s AMG tuning division has given the ML the full AMG treatment. Revealed ahead of its Los Angeles Auto Show, the ML63 AMG makes use of the new 5,5-litre V8 engine and does a sub-five-second zero-to-100 km/h sprint.
In its standard form, this biturbo engine pushes out 386 kW and 700 N.m of torque. When equipped with the AMG Performance Package, however, these numbers rise to 410 kW and 760 N.m. There’s not much of a difference in the zero-to-100 km/h time, with numbers standing at 4,7 and 4,6 seconds respectively. Despite its high output numbers, Mercedes has tried to keep the emissions level and fuel consumption of the 5,5-litre V8 as low as possible and equipped this vehicle with a stop/start system.
Drive is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed AMG Speedshift transmission. There are three driving programmes from which to choose – controlled efficiency, sport and manual – each with its own benefits.
With its AMG kit, 20-inch five spoke wheels and low-slung stance, the ML63 AMG looks powerful and aggressive. The interior boasts a four-spoke AMG steering wheel, aluminum shift paddles, aluminum trim elements and leather upholstery.
The new Mercedes-Benz M-Class will reach SA in the first half of next year.
