After an in-depth analysis of 20 000 road accidents, 25 000 prototype tyres were tested to evaluate the theory and ensure that the final product delivers the required result. And the results were:
1: Four per cent improved in braking performance in the dry (compared with the competition)
2: Improved braking on wet roads (about three per cent better than the main competition)
3: improved grip when cornering on wet roads
Apart from the on-going improvement in the blend of compounds elastomers, silicone reinforcing agents and resin-based softeners, Michelin has also come up with a new tread pattern using self-locking sipes (they have even patented the design). These lock into each other, increasing the rigidity, thus improving contact between rubber and road. The thickness of the sipes has also been reduced, again increasing rubber contact without loss of wet weather performance from the reduced “space” between tread clocks.
The diameter of tyres available range from 15-inch to 18-inch in aspect ratios from 65 to 45.
