Along with a raft of well-known models, Mitsubishi is prepping two exciting newcomers for this month’s Johannesburg International Motor Show.
The most notable addition to the company’s SUV stable will arrive in the shape of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. This model first surfaced at the Moscow Motor Show earlier this year and shares a number of styling cues with the Triton.
Under the Pajero Sport’s skin lies a ladder frame chassis and Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD system. The suspension set-up comprises a double-wishbone coil spring configuration at the front and a 3-link coil spring arrangement at the rear. The
Pajero Sport is also available with an optional rear differential lock.
At present, the only powerplant earmarked for this model is a 3,2-litre turbodiesel mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox developing 120 kW and 343 N.m of torque. A smaller 2,5-litre turbodiesel and 3,5-litre petrol V6 are expected to join the line-up soon.
Among the company’s other SUV offerings will be locally-assembled Triton ClubCab and Triton Double Cab, the Pajero 3.2-litre diesel long- and short-wheel-base GLS, Outlander 2.4-litre GLS and the Dakar-Rally winning model, Pajero Evolution.
Those more interested in Mitsubishi’s road-going models will be pleased to hear that the Lancer 2.0-litre GLS and CVT models will be on display, as well as the rally derived precursor to the Lancer Evo X known as Prototype X, which anticipates the long-awaited introduction of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X to the South African market.
Summing up the company’s JIMS offering, newly appointed divisional manager of Mitsubishi Motors SA, Suraiya Naidoo, says “JIMS will be a good opportunity for us to reveal some of our new and exciting products that are in the pipeline. Visitors will get to see products that are built to epitomize the brand’s commitment to providing the utmost driving adventure, pleasure and safety.”
