As it name suggests, it is a selfish little car. Called the Mono, it’s developed by Briggs Automotive Company Ltd in the UK. Britain in known for its small, niche sportscar manufacturers and the Mono sportscar is the newest addition.
The name refers to this serious track car’s single seat. As is the case with a single-seater race car, the driver is positioned in the middle of the car for, amongst other reasons, optimum weight distribution. Making use of a steel safety cell and carbon fibre, the total weight of the Mono is only 540 kg. This is similar to products of other British manufacturers such as Caterham, Ariel, Radical and KTM.
The Cosworth engine is positioned behind the driver. It’s a four-cylinder, naturally aspirated 2,3-litre that produces 209 kW and 280 N.m. According to BAC Ltd, it will hit 100 km/h from a standstill in under 3,0 seconds and 160 km/h in 6,7 seconds before topping out at 274 km/h.
The inboard suspension is made up of twin wishbones, push rods and an adjustable anti-roll bar. Sachs racing dampers are used, which are visible from the outside, similar to that of the KTM X-Bow.
A Hewland six-speed sequential gearbox is connected to the rear axle which includes a limited slip differential.
The design, if you have a look at the pictures, clearly offers something more modern and stylish than other niche British manufacturers.
Unfortunately, can’t tell you to look out for a road test…
