Human-machine-interface (HMI) engineers have a difficult job in displaying all relevant information to the driver in an easy-to-read but trendy manner. Johnson Controls has moved one step closer to three-dimensional display with its latest multilayer instrument cluster. The idea behind the multiple layers is to provide the driver with a depth perception when viewing the instrument cluster. This allows for a realistic graphic representation of spatial situations, for example crash avoidance or following-distance warnings. The display employs the latest thin-film transistor (TFT) technology to offer a high-resolution image with excellent contrast and brightness properties to ensure easy reading. No introduction date has been given, but expect the 3D trend to influence all future instrument clusters.
