It had to happen…The renowned Bottrop-based tuning firm simply had to have a go at trying to eke out more power from the E63 AMG’s normally-aspirated 6,2-litre V8. You may well be thinking that this has been done before, and you’d not be mistaken. The firm’s last foray into W212 E-Class modification spawned the formidable-looking EV12 ‘Black Baron’, a 597 kW creation that looked fit to serve as Darth Vader’s daily runabout.
So, stick in a V12 or some turbos and the job is done, right? Well, no…Mercedes takes a great deal of pride in the fact that the 6,2-litre V8 mill in its AMG models is one of, if not the, most powerful normally-aspirated engines on the market. Brabus was aware of this and formulated its B63 S kit to bump up the power output from 386 kW and 630 N.m to a whacking great 408 kW and 650 N.m of torque…Without reverting to forced induction (i.e. supercharging or turbocharging). The cylinders haven’t been bored out either – the kit comprises two sport air filters, free-flow metal catalysts, newly programmed engine electronics and a limited-slip differential with a locking rate of up to 40 percent to rein in all of that power.
The result is a 0-100 km/h time of just 4,3 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.
Brabus has also developed a aerodynamic kit that includes a carbon fibre front spoiler lip, a rear diffuser and a rear spoiler. Those sizeable air outlets ahead of the front wheels are not just for show, being included to improve venting. Custom-tailored wheel and tyre combinations are also offered 18, 19 and 20-inch sizes shod with Pirelli or Yokohama high-performance tyres sized 245/30 ZR 20 up front and up to 295/25 ZR 20 at the rear.
As per most of Brabus’ creations, the interior is trimmed in the company’s durable Mastik leather and Alcantara, with carbon fibre inlays and wood finishes as well as stainless-steel scuff plates with illuminated BRABUS logos and a speedometer with 360 km/h reading.
