Hot on the heels of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz C-Class, leaked images of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupé have found their way onto the web ahead of what could be either a Detroit or Geneva unveiling.
Despite the barrage of renderings that suggested otherwise, the C-Class appears to wear the coupé body shape very well. The strong character line that runs from the front wheelarches to the apex of the brake-lamp clusters marry well with a steeply-raked windscreen and more curved roof to give the C-Class Coupé a svelte silhouette. Unlike other members Mercedes’ coupé family, however, this model features a B-pillar, which mars the visual effect ever so slightly.
In terms of on-board fixtures and technology, the Coupé is likely to share many of its features with the recently-unveiled 2012 C-Class saloon – including a new range of infotainment systems with greater operating convenience, larger displays, telephone directory transfer, display of SMS messages, wireless music reproduction via Bluetooth and a USB interface now accommodated in the centre armrest.
The engine line-up has yet to be confirmed, but expect it to roughly mirror than of the saloon with the introduction of direct fuel injection for the V6 in C350 (228 kW/370 N.m) as well as turbocharging for the four-cylinder models.
There has been talk of a Black Series model in the pipeline with a 5,5-litre twin-turbo V8 capable of developing up to 420 kW and 900 N.m of torque. As Mercedes tends to limit AMG models to one per model range, unlikely that the Black Series will be joined by a C63 AMG Coupé.
