Citroën has released official images of its C4 Picasso which will be launched internationally later this year.
This new generation C4 Picasso takes on a different design direction when compared with other models in the French manufacturer’s stable. The front end features a large lower air intake, LED lights that have been split from the main headlamp housing and a long and narrow Citroën logo. At the rear, the styling is almost box-like with angular taillamps and straight-cut lines that make the C4 Picasso look very Volkswagen-like.
Based on PSA’s EMP2 (efficient modular platform 2), the C4 Picasso is 140 kg lighter than the model it replaces, is 4 430 mm long, 1 830 mm wide and 1 610 mm high. It may be shorter than the precious C4 Picasso, but Citroën claims that its wheelbase has grown by 55 mm.
The panoramic windscreen, large glass roof and slim A-pillars help in creating an airy feel to the cabin. Citroën has finished the new C4 Picasso with new varnish on the paintwork, new soft paint application technology, new chrome technologies and full-grain leather in a bid to move the compact MPV further upmarket.
Citroën claims that the new C4 Picasso is “the first compact MPV with an internal combustion engine to deliver sub-100g/km CO2 emissions”. The e-HDi 90 Airdream model emits a claimed figure of 98 g/km. This unit is mated with a six-speed automatic transmission. A six-speed manual is also available.
Other engines on offer will include a VTi 120 and a THP 155 for as the petrol options, along with a 1,6-liter e-HDi 115 and a 1,6-liter Blue HDi 150 as the diesel pickings. The latter comes with a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) that helps keep CO2 emissions to 110 g/km. Stop&Start technology is fitted to all diesel models except for the HDi 90 manual.
Engines on offer will include a 1,6-liter e-HDi 115 and a 1,6-liter Blue HDi 150 (Euro 6 compliant) with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) for lowering CO2 emissions to 110 g/km. In terms of gasoline engines, the 2014 Citroën C4 Picasso can be configured with a VTi 120 and a more powerful THP 155.
Standard safety, comfort and convenience specification may include (depending on the package chosen) cruise control, blind spot monitoring system, 360 vision that makes use of four cameras around the car, park assist, and a full digital interface that features a seven-inch touchpad and seven touch sensitive buttons to control the dual-zone air conditioning, navigation, audio, phone connectivity and driving aids
Citroën South Africa is not yet able to confirm whether the new C4 Picasso will make its way to South Africa.
