Internationally, Audi has made a new engine available in its A1 and A3 models. The new 1,4T FSI unit features cylinder-on-demand technology and is under consideration for the local A3 (it will be available in the VW Golf 7).
This new engine is able to shut down two of its four cylinders, depending on throttle input, as a fuel saving measure. It has a maximum power output of 103 kW available at 5 000 r/min and 250 N.m or torque between 1 500 and 3 500 r/min. In the A3 variant, this unit is mated with a six-speed manual transmission in both the hatchback and Sportback versions. The hatch is capable of a zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 8,3 seconds, while the Sportback is only marginally slower at 8,4 seconds.
