A couple of weeks ago, we were teased by RenaultSport about an updated Mégane. Earlier this week, RenaultSport finally showed us the Mégane RS Trophy. You can read about it here.
In the mean time, hot news came in this morning about the lap time the Mégane 265 Trophy achieved around the Nürburgring Circuit in Germany. We know that RenaultSport’s engineers and development team have done a lot of development work at this track with one aim in mind: to beat the previous front-wheel drive record holder, their very own Mégane R26.R at 8:17 min.
The Trophy comfortably set a new record. If the Twittersphere is to be believed, one of RenaultSport’s development drivers, Laurent Hurgon, achieved a blistering time of 8:07,97.
What tickles us is that the Trophy isn’t really a successor to the hardcore, stripped-out R26.R. As far as we can gather, it isn’t that much lighter than the standard Mégane RS Cup. We wonder what the lap time will be if Renault decides to give the Trophy the R26.R treatment?
