Design-wise, the 2012 model year Honda CR-V does not appear to have strayed a great deal from the concept vehicle that the firm showed off earlier this year at the Orange County Motor Show.
Underpinned by an all-new platform, the 2012 CR-V features prominent stylistic changes to the front and rear. The nose features a low-slung wraparound bumper and upswept headlamps into which sections of the three grille louvres cut. According to Honda, the overall effect is a more distinctive, aggressive front end that is also more aerodynamic than that of the current car.
The rear will sport a refreshed take on the current car’s vertically-stacked brakelamps, while the flanks will feature more pronounced side sills and wheel arch mouldings to give the car a more purposeful stance.
In addition to the stylistic changes, the CR-V’s new platform will reportedly free up extra cabin space thanks to a lower floor and will see the utility space grow appreciably.
From what can be made of the cabin, it appears that the CR-V will share elements of its facia mouldings with the upcoming Honda Civic. Features such as a high-mounted gear-selector, centrally-mounted infotainment system and “floating” multi-information dials in a similar vein to those found in the current Civic will also find their way into the new CR-V.
Honda has not released any information surrounding the engine line-up, but has stated the new units will offer greater efficiency and fuel economy.
The new CR-V and Civic are expected to find their way onto the local market towards the middle of next year.
