The new Nissan Micra has just been launched in South Africa. With an all-new platform, design and engines, Nissan believes this little hatchback “continues to set the city-car standard”.
The Micra is built on Nissan’s new V (for versatile) platform that has been designed for better rigidity, but also to be as light as possible. The new 1,2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine develops 56 kW and 104 N.m of torque. Nissan claims that the Micra is more fuel efficient and has lower emissions than before, with figures of 5,2 litres/100 km and 124 g/km respectively.
As a city car, dimensions are important. The Micra has a height of 1 520 mm, width of 1 665 mm, length of 3 780 mm and a wheelbase of 2 450 mm. Maximum boot space is a claimed 511 dm3.
There are four specification grades available – Visia, Visia+, Acenta and Tekna. Standard features across the range include ABS with EBD and BAS, rear fog lamps and power steering. Moving through the levels adds electric windows, central locking, optional or standard audio system and electric side mirrors.
A 1,5 diesel and petrol engines will also join the line-up. The diesel unit has an output of 47 kW at 4 000 r/min and torque of 160 N.m at 2 000 r/min. The top-of-the-range 1,5 petrol engine has a maximum power output of 73 kW at 6 000 r/min. Torque is 134 kW at 4 800 r/min. This model will only be available with the Tekna package that adds hands-free phone connectivity, automatic climate control and under-seat storage on the passenger side of the vehicle to the standard features mentioned above.
