Mitsubishi has released an image of its all-new Outlander. This new crossover is set to make its debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.
Moving away from the styling that we have come to see on Mitsubishi models as of late, the styling of the new Outlander is based on the PX-MiEV Concept that was shown at the Tokyo Motor Show. The familiar large gaping grille that can be seen across the current Mitsubishi range has made way for more modest design cues with cleaner lines and rounded edges. It looks like a cross between a modern Subaru and a Citroën.
Not that we can see it right now, but Mitsubishi claims that the interior is as “uncluttered” as the exterior and features soft-touch finishes and silver accents on various surfaces.
Engines that will be on offer in Europe include a 2,0-litre Mivec petrol unit as well as a 2,2-litre diesel version. These will be available in a 2WD or 4WD version. Various markets will have the option of auto stop/start, an eco-friendly driving system that notifies the driver of their efficiency, and Mitsubishi’s new six-speed automatic transmission.
The possibility of an EV version of the Outlander is not completely off the table. Mitsubishi claims that the plug-in hybrid EV system will result in a low CO2 emissions figure of less than 50 g/km.
Russia will be the first to get its hands on the 2013 Outlander. Mitsubishi South Africa could not be reached for comment on the local arrival of this crossover.
