We have previously reported on BMW’s Active Tourer after it was spotted during what seemed to be a film shoot. Now a local BMW insider has confirmed to CAR that the model will be coming to South Africa and will be launched in October.
This will be the first time BMW produces a front-wheel-drive car (excluding its Mini models, of course). While we’re on Mini, the Active Tourer might feature similar engines that will include the new 1,5-litre, three-cylinder turbopetrol engine (showing BMW’s love for 500 cm 3 per cylinder) that delivers 100 kW and 220 N.m and a 2,0-litre, turbopetrol delivering 141 kW and 280 N.m.
Another engine that could possibly find its way into the Active Tourer is a 2,0-litre turbodiesel (135 kW/380 N.m).
We expect the production version of the Active Tourer to be officially unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
