Following the leaked images, Nissan has released these official videos and details of its new “tough” and “smart” bakkie. Building on its long heritage of bakkies, the NP300 Navara is the company’s 12th generation of its bakkie range.
As expected, there will be the choice of a single, King and double cab derivatives, as well as rear-wheel and four-wheel-drive models. Two new hues will also join the colour chart, Savannah Yellow and Earth Bronze.
According to Nissan, it has used several SUV elements to make the overall user experience with the Navara more convenient. These include the quality of the materials, ergonomic design and an improvement in ingress and egress.
The high-resolution colour TFT instrument display will give the driver access to the compass, navigation system, trip computer, alerts as well as maintenance reminders. A reduced turning circle has improved manoeuvrability.
In its press release, Nissan has made mention of only two engines, updated versions of the 2,5-litre turbodiesel and the 2,5-litre petrol. Nissan claims two output levels for the diesel unit of 120 kW/403 N.m and 140 kW/450 N.m, which is basically the same as the current units. However, there has been a significant reduction in fuel consumption of up to 11%.
Two transmissions will be offered, either a seven-speed automatic unit or a six-speed manual gearbox. Safety features will include VDC (vehicle dynamic control), ABLS (active brake limited slip), HSA (hill start assist) and HDC (hill descent control).
Although Nissan SA didn’t confirm exactly when this Navara will made its local debut. We expect it to arrive at the latest by next year.
