For those of you out there who think McLaren’s P1 is, well, just a tad slow, we have some good news. We’re hearing reports that the Woking company is going to make a limited, track-only run of its hypercar flagship.
How will it differ from the street car? In almost every aspect it would seem. Your plug-in hybrid P1 Track, as its expected to be called, will have more power and torque (currently a combined 673 kW and 899 N.m), stiffer suspension, be lighter, and feature even more extreme bodywork than the bog standard P1.
Before you whip out your cheque book though, there could be a snag. Because it’s likely McLaren will only build 20 or 30 of these specials (remember they’re only building 375 standard P1s, all of which are sold), the ownership criteria is quite strict…
It appears that only if you already own a road-going P1 will you be offered the opportunity to purchase the Track equivalent. British publication Autocar reports that McLaren has responded to requests from its customers for a track version and by offering in writing the opportunity to fulfill their wishes.
Just as Ferrari does with its track-only XX models (and they will be building a LaFerrari XX), the P1 Tracks will likely be kept and maintained by McLaren on behalf of their owners.
