The first Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Snake has been produced at the new production plant in Las Vegas, Nevada. As one of the last models built on the current platform, but the first from a new facility, it’s headed straight for the Shelby Automotive Museum.
Owned by the Carroll Hall Shelby Trust, the “Grabber Blue” GT500 Super Snake will be displayed alongside the likes of famed models to come out of the legendary stable such as the very first Cobra – CSX2000.
The GT500 Super Snake boasts a revised version of the supercharged 5,8 V8 powerplant that does duty in the basic GT500, and produces in excess of 630 kW. Shelby American has planned to produce around 500 units of these special vehicles. With the stock GT500 costing $55 110, the no holds barred 850 hp (630 kW) Super Snake will set North American clients back an extra $39 995.
As the company’s moved closer to downtown Las Vegas from its previous base of operation at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Shelby expects to be a lot more accessible to higher profile visitors.
The next generation Mustang is headed to South Africa, and there are whispers that Ford is also planning a Shelby-badged pony car of its own, likely to be a GT350 – which would be a nice addition to the local line-up when it’s launched here next year.
