Thunder saloons sure have come back into the spotlight recently, especially the American offerings. But just ahead of the North American International Auto Show in Detroit Lexus hopes to steal some of the attention with the range-topping GS F.
The GS F is set apart from its lesser siblings by a massive version of the company’s spindle grille, with LED headlamps atop extra air intakes on either side. The bulging fenders are vented at the front, with 19-inch alloys prominent on the profile (wrapped in 255/35 and 275/35 rubber front and rear), and quad exhaust tailpipes at the rear.
The GS F’s cabin boasts two-tone leather sports seats as well as plenty of carbon fibre trim.
The range-topping GS is powered by a normally aspirated 5,0-litre V8 that produces 348 kW at 7 100 r/min and 527 N.m of torque at 4 800 r/min. Torque is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The GS F’s handling prowess will be enhanced by a stiffer monocoque and sport-tuned suspension. It also boasts what Lexus calls a Torque Vectoring Differential (TVD) with three different modes – standard, slalon and track.
