Hennessey Performance Engineering, the Texas-based tuner of exotics automobiles and manufacturer of the Venom GT, has decided to commemorate the latter’s unofficial top-speed world record with limited-edition model. Unfortunately, all three Venom GT World’s Fastest Editions have already been sold out.
They went for an eye-watering $1,25 million (approximately R13,5 million) each. But the only real difference between this model and a “regular” Venom GT is that is it sports three stripes in red, white and blue – to represent the Stars and Stripes that the Hennessey team flew out of the car after it hit 270 mph (435,1 km/h) at the Space Shuttle landing strip at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida last month.
The Venom GT does not qualify for the title of World’s fastest production car because Guinness World Records requires that 30 models be made in total (Hennessey intends to build only 29 Venom GTs), and that the average speed of two runs be recorded, whereas the Hennessey team only performed a single sprint.
The Hennessey Venom GT does hold the official Guinness World Record for being the fastest-accelerating car to 300 km/h (in just 13,63 seconds).
