Mahindra South Africa is about to tap into the local light commercial vehicle (LCV) market a little more with the introduction of the Bolero Maxitruck Plus, a no frills workhorse.
Essentially, the Bolero Maxitruck is Mahindra’s answer to offering low running costs, with a maximised payload and “rugged reliability” at this low price point.
The Maxitruck can easily be distinguished as a Bolero thanks to the dominant vertically slotted grille and square headlamps. The similarities end in the Maxitruck’s extended wheelbase, which offers an extra 136 mm. This has allowed for an even larger load bay, which now measures in at a generous 2 500 mm long, 1 540 mm wide and 295 mm deep.
The Bolero Maxitruck is powered by the company’s familiar 2,5-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine that produces 46 kW at 3 200 r/min and 195 N.m of torque at 2 200 r/min. A five speed manual gearbox sends torque to the rear axle and helps the Maxitruck return just 7,0 litres/100 km on the combined cycle.
An old school leaf spring suspension is in use at both the front and rear axles, while thick 195/80 R15 tyres increase both the load carrying capacity and ride comfort.
“The addition of the Maxitruck Plus to our Bolero pick-up range confirms Mahindra’s commitment to providing South African buyers with authentic, robust and functional vehicles that are tough, reliable and affordable,” says Ashok Thakur, CEO of Mahindra South Africa.
The new Mahindra Bolero Maxitruck Plus is available at R127 995 and comes with a two year/50 000 km warranty. Services are at 10 000 km intervals.
