Mercedes-Benz showed the new W222 S-Class to the media for the first time in May during one of the most elaborate launch events in recent memory. Soon afterwards, we drove the S350 Bluetec at the international launch in Canada followed by the S63 AMG’s launch directly after the Frankfurt Motor Show.
This week marks the local launch of the technology laden S-Class. Mercedes-Benz South Africa has confirmed the model range as well as the pricing. The range kicks off with the 3,0-litre V6 turbodiesel engine developing 190 kW/620 N.m and a claimed fuel consumption of only 5,9 litres per 100 km.
Next up is the S400 Hybrid delivering 225 kW + 20 kW/370 N.m from a 3,5-litre V6 petrol engine in conjunction with an electric motor. The S500 uses the 4,7-litre biturbo-V8 petrol engine developing 335 kW/700 N.m. The money-is-no-object S63 AMG with its 5,5-litre biturbo-V8 engine will challenge its rear tyres’ grip levels with 430 kW/900 N.m. Expect the S65 AMG to follow within the next few months.
