Barely two weeks after we drove the S63 AMG Coupe, Daimler AG has revealed is phenomenal Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG Coupe.
As expected this will be the top-of-range model for the car’s lifespan. Under the long bonnet is AMG’s 6,0-litre, V12 engine delivering 463 kW and 1 000 N.m. Claimed fuel consumption is 11,9 litres per 100 km, helped by a stop/start function. More importantly, the sprint to 100 km/h is said to take only 4,1 seconds before it reaches an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h. We expect AMG will move the limiter to 300 km/h for a small fee, as is the case with the S63 AMG.
The same curve tilting function we experienced on the S63 AMG Coupe, will also be offered on the S65 AMG. This system is combined with Mercedes-Benz’s magic body control and the road surface scan system which analyses the road in front of the car.
In case you wondered who are those lucky individual who buy these cars, Tobias Moers, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG GmbH had the following to say:
“There are AMG fans for whom our V12 biturbo engine is the measure of all things. For this clientele we have developed a unique car in the form of the new S65 AMG Coupé. From driving dynamics to comfort and equipment – our new twelve-cylinder coupé surpasses even the highest of expectations”.
As with previous AMGs, the 7G-Tronic transmission is offered with three different driving modes, controlled efficiency, sport and manual.
Optional performance equipment will include a ceramic composite brake system. The unsprung mass of this system has also been reduced by 20%.
No local pricing has been made available as yet, but overseas the S65 AMG will retail for €244 000.
Expect local introduction around the first quarter of 2015.
