It is Jaguar Land Rover’s most powerful and fastest SUV to date, the new Range Rover Sport SVR.
The British-based, but Indian-owned, company has released a teaser video before the car was driven up the hill at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, followed by a press release of the new SUV’s impressive ‘Ring time.
Officially shown at this week’s classy Pebble Beach event in the USA, Land Rover has released the first technical details of the car.
Delivering 405 kW and 680 N.m from its 5,0-litre, V8 supercharged engine, the SVR will reach 97 km/h from standstill in a claimed 4,5 seconds, followed by a top speed of 260 km/h.
JLR also claims that the four-wheel drive chassis, although optimised for on-road dynamic behaviour, is still just as capable off-road as the standard Range Rover Sport. Fuel consumption is also said to have remained the same, even though the engine produces more power and torque.
Enhancing some of the sound from the exhaust system, the SVR is fitted with a two-stage active system with electronically-controlled valves. Once the upper part of the rev range is reached, expect a similar sound to that of an F-Type R or Jaguar XFR.
The SVR will be fitted 21-inch alloy wheels with 275/45 R21 all-season tyres, but part of the options list will be massive 22-inch alloy wheels with performance-focused 295/40 R22 Continental SportContact 5 tyres! It is maybe with the latter you would not consider venturing off-road.
Even owing to its sporty chassis, the SVR still offers a two-speed transfer case (low range) for challenging off-road conditions while, as is the case with the standard Sport, it is also fitted with the latest Terrain Response off-roud system. The SVR also sports a wading depth of up to 850 mm and offers a towing capacity of 3 tonnes.
According to JLR, this SUV, build by the company’s Special Vehicle Operations, is the first of many vehicles from the company to wear the new SVR badge.
Land Rover confirmed that orders could be placed from October, while deliveries will take place during the first quarter of 2015.
