By now Volkswagen and its BlueMotion technology are synonymous with frugal engines. Following the success of the previous Polo BlueMotion, the Wolfsburg-based company has released its first TSI car featuring BlueMotion technology, meaning it is the first petrol car to be offered with the BlueMotion tag.
The new Polo BlueMotion features a 1,0-litre, turbocharged three-cylinder engine developing 70 kW and 160 N.m. The claimed average fuel consumption figure is 4,1 litres per 100 km with a resulting 94 g/km of CO2. Even so, VW claims this Polo can still achieve a top speed of 190 km/h.
Apart from the engine, several other improvements have been made to the car to achieve this exceptional figure. The ride height of the car has been lowered, while upgrades have also been made to the aerodynamics of the underbody and the radiator grille. The low rolling resistance tyres and longer gear ratios further contributes to the reduction in fuel consumption.
Safety technologies come in the form of a front assist ambient traffic monitoring system which includes city emergency braking as well as adaptive cruise control.
There are also a few infotainment systems available, of which Bluetooth audio streaming, and a proximity sensor for the touchscreen are some of the highlights.
Expect the new Polo BlueMotion to arrive in the first quarter of next year.
