The D segment is about to get shaken up with the arrival of a 3,6-litre six-cylinder engine in the new Legacy range, which should hit local showrooms imminently.
The sixth-generation Legacy (otherwise known as BF4), is definitely a softer, more toned-down example, with the traditional Subaru traits of quality, reliability and a certain degree of ruggedness. With the intruduction of the Legacy 3,6R, performance will once again be added to the segment stalwart’s long lost of attributes.
As can be expected from a Subaru, the Legacy 3,6R features a horizontally opposed layout, with all of six-cylinders to help produce 191 kW and 350 N.m of torque. Thanks to the company’s legenday Symmetrical All Wheel Drive system, the Legacy 3,6R should be able to put those figures to the ground with minimal fuss.
Befitting of its flagship status, the Legacy 3,6R will come standard with a generous level of specification and safety features.
“Intelligence has always been part of the Legacy philosophy, and this is apparent in features such as Si-Drive and other driver aids, advanced transmission and drivetrain technology, and both passive and dynamic safety,” says Subaru Southern Africa’s marketing manager, Ashley Lazarus.
“The new version is designed to be a more engaging car on an emotional and tactile level, starting with a sleeker, sportier shape and a purposeful countenance underpinned by the new grille. It continues on the inside with a more driver-centric cockpit and an upmarket yet sporty persona.
Pricing for the sixth-generation Subaru Legacy 3,6R is expected to be approximately R530 000, with a 3 year/75 000 maintenance plan as standard.
