It might come as a surprise to some, but Maruti Suzuki is India’s leading carmaker. The company has a huge market share with the best selling models being the equivalent of the Alto and Swift we have in South Africa.
It only makes sense then that the Japanese-based manufacturer will launch its next A-segment hatchback at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. Called the Suzuki Celerio, this five-door hatchback will be a global product, which will be introduced to the world market later this year.
It seems the Celerio is likely to replace the current Alto, although the three-cylinder engine (50 kW/90 N.m) will be retained in the Celerio. Suzuki has confirmed that it will feature a clutchless, automated-manual transmission.
Ventilated discs provide braking force at the front with a drum setup at the rear. The car is claimed to tip the scales between 810 and 830 kg.
