Apart from the saloon concept that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, we haven’t received many clues as to what the rest of the next generation A3 might look like. These images, from AutoExpress, depict the three-door model – set to arrive in showrooms abroad early next year.
The pictures of the three-door model, the first of a model line-up that will include a saloon and a five-door Sportback in 2013, are based on official Audi sketches. Aside from it looking like a stretched A1 (the taillamps and sharper nose treatment), the new A3 will also borrow a few other details from its smaller sibling and also appears to be a lot more squat and purposefully poised than its predecessor.
The A3 will also be equipped with a comprehensive sat-nav system that will use images taken from Google maps and boast Internet connection. The interior will build on the marque’s reputation for good perceived quality – using some of the A1’s interior kit and with much influence from models like the A5 and A6.
The engine line-up will include 1,2; 1,4; 1,8 and 2,0-litre turbocharged petrol units with outputs ranging from 80 kW to 155 kW – and 1,6 and 2,0-litre turbodiesel units. There are also apparently hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions in the pipeline.
