[Nissan News] Nissan’s attempts to make a name for itself in the C-segment have been mixed at best. Although solid and dependable, the Almera and Tiida didn’t exactly makes waves when they were on the market. So, after a lengthy absence from that market segment the company recently announced that it plans to bring out an all-new model with its sights fixed firmly on Volkswagen’s Golf.
According to an Auto Express report, Nissan’s global planning boss, Andy Palmer, has confirmed that such a model will go in sale in 2014. Palmer has apparently stated that the company wants to go after people who are bored with the new Golf and that Nissan will design its hatch to be more provocative; taking its main styling cues from the Inspiration Concept that appeared at last year’s Geneva Motor Show.
Palmer stated that “The face is a little bit leftfield, a little bit edgy. You can see what we have been doing recently with the V-grille going into the hood. And we can that take that DNA into the handling.”
This new Nissan will be built in Spain and its name, according to Palmer, will “evoke something from the past.”
