Nissan has lifted the wraps off its Brazilian market-targeted Extrem crossover concept at this year’s Sao Paulo Motor Show. Touted as an “urban sportscar” the Extrem’s production viability is still under consideration, but its styling is indicative of future Nissan products.
Visually, the Extrem looks like the product of a romantic encounter between a Juke and a 370Z; sporting the floorpan and stance of the former along with the aggressive front-end treatment, strong character lines on the flanks and prominent wheel arches of the latter.
The same 1,6-litre DIG-T turbopetrol engine found in the Juke powers this 2+2 concept. Developing 140 kW and 240 N.m of torque, this unit could be mated with a choice of front- and all-wheel drivetrains. The all-wheel version could also receive the Juke’s Torque Vectoring system that counters understeer.
Nissan will use the Sao Paulo Motor Show to gauge public opinion before considering a production run, but whether the Extrem gets the nod or not, its design will prove indicative of the company’s future products.
