Toyota has borne the brunt of the recent recall wars, and other manufacturers have been hurriedly calling vehicles in to have minor adjustments and enhancements made here and there. The latest recall involves Porsche, which has recently experienced problems with potentially problematic seatbelt mechanisms in its Panamera grand saloon.
During internal testing, Porsche engineers have discovered that accelerating and reversing repeatedly could cause the seatbelt restraint system to malfunction in the seats rearmost setting… which means there’ s an outside chance that the belt may not restrain the driver properly in the event of a collision shortly after the aforementioned driving conditions.
No incidents have been reported, but as a pre-emptive measure, the Stuttgart-based firm has announced that all 11 324 Panameras built since the model’s introduction will be fitted with an additional safety measure when they go for scheduled maintenance at Porsche dealerships.
Public Relations Manager for Porsche Centre South Africa, Christo Kruger, has confirmed that local Panameras have also been affected by this recall, and that owners will be duly informed of measures to be taken.
