Due for unveiling at the upcoming Paris Motor Show, the Smart ForStars concept appears to indicate that this Daimler brand may be eyeing exploration of the compact crossover niche. With its raised ground clearance, large wheels and cheeky stance, it may just work… That said, there isn't anything quite like it out there – well, not since the Suzuki X-90 (never sold in SA).
There are a number of tasty concept-car details. Besides a completely transparent glass roof, and a luggage area that can be extended, the ForStars also features a video projector in the bonnet that can project videos onto a flat surface using Bluetooth and an iPhone. For sound, there are speakers built into the side vents on the Tridion body cell. A mobile "drive-in" theatre then?
The ForStars uses an all-electric drivetrain that sees a 60 kW magneto-electric motor drawing power from a 17,6 kW/h lithium-ion battery. With 135 N.m of instantaneous torque on tap, the ForStars can reach a maximum speed of more than 130 km/h.
