The popular Passion for Speed international classic race weekend takes place from this Friday at Zwartkops. This year’s event promises to be one of the best yet, with classics such as an ex-Jackie Stewart BRM P261, an ex-Michael Schumacher Benetton F1 racer and celebrities such as Jan Lammers, Sarel van der Merwe and South Africa’s own F1 lady, Desire Wilson.
Castrol Edge is also sponsoring a race event to rekindle some of the emotions associated with historical sportscar racing. The entry list of the pre-1974 international Sports Racing Prototype meeting will include:
• Three Lola T70s driven by Garth Waberski, Hennie Groenewald and Colin Butcher;
• Porsche 917s driven by Colin Frost, Clare Vale, Rui Campos and Peter Bailey;
• Martini Porsche driven by André Bezuidenhout;
• Porsche RSRs of Frans Pretorius, John Greve and Dillon Miller;
• Chevron B8s and B19s;
• Three Group 5 cars – two Camaros and Robbie Smith in a Capri.
