The new 911 Carrera 4 GTS is proof that Porsche has become really good at lying… Not that we mind. The 997 range of 911s already offers a wide variety of iterations, but now Porsche has squeezed in another one, even after is said at the unveiling of the Carrera GTS earlier this year that it wouldn’t add another version before the 997 is replaced.
Alongside the GT3 RS 4,0 that was uncovered a few weeks ago, the company will offer another GTS model, this time with four-wheel drive. The Carrera 4 GTS keeps the same 3,8-litre flat-six engine, however. It delivers 300 kW and 420 N.m of torque, enough to power it from standstill to 100 km/h in 4,6 seconds. The heavier cabriolet version takes 0,2 seconds longer to reach the same speed.
Both the six-speed manual and Porsche-Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) will be available in the coupe and cabriolet (the latter ‘box drops each version 0-100 km/h time by 0,2 seconds).
Visually, there is little to distinguish the 4 GTS from its rear-wheel-drive counterpart, with the most obvious stylistic change a reflective strip connecting the rear taillights.
Expect this model to arrive in South Africa in the third quarter of the year. Pricing should be start at around R1,2 million.
