Porsche has revealed its Panamera Sport Turismo Concept at this year’s Paris Motor Show as a showcase of the firm’s future design language and its latest developments in hybrid drivetrain technology.
The Panamera Sport Turismo Concept’s styling incorporates a cleaner, more angular take on the company’s design ethos with ornate LED headlamps, a tiered rear section, plentiful venting on the front and rear valances and a strip taillamp arrangement similar to that of the recently revealed 911 Carrera 4S. While it is a step towards the future, it still has to be said that it’s more evolutionary than revolutionary – the Porsche DNA is still evident here.
The same cannot be said of the interior, however. Yes, there’s lashings of leather trim and chrome accenting, but the instrument binnacle now features a full digital readout in lieu of analogue dials while the infotainment system features a touch-screen interface with shortcut keys for frequently used functions. This system also features a smartphone application that allows the driver to monitor battery status and pre-set the climate control before getting into the vehicle.
Information pertaining to Porsche new e-hybrid plug-in hybrid drivetrain can also be accessed via the infotainment system. This hybid setup comprises a supercharged 3,0-litre V6 engine augmented by a 70 kW electric motor fed by a 9 kWh lithium-ion battery.
With a combined output of 306 kW, this unit is capable of propelling the concept from standstill to 100 km/h in under six seconds. The hybrid drivetrain can also power the concept for 30 km at speeds of up to 130 km/h while returning fuel consumption and CO2 figures of around 3,5 L/100 km and 82 g/km, respectively.
