Toyota’s award winning Prius hybrid vehicle has received an update, which includes some snazzy new features, barely a year after its launch.
The latest generation of Toyota’s innovative vehicle using hybrid technology was introduced here early last year, mere months after its international unveiling.
Exterior changes to the Prius include the addition of a front spoiler, the inclusion of a chrome strip above the front bumper, and revised front and rear light clusters.
The Prius’ interior adjustments are more visible. Toyota’s satellite navigation is now available as a standard feature for the first time in South Africa. The satnav system uses the Prius’ existing touch screen interface and offers 10 ways to search and store destinations using the screen’s full keyboard. The system uses a multi-map feature that provides different ways of viewing the information, ranging from a broad overview of the area to a street-level zoom function.
The facia has been updated with the addition of embossed leather trim and padded inserts. Cloth seats are replaced with grey full leather upholstery, while the seat back of the rear bench has been widened by 50 mm and the seat cushion lowered for more comfort.
Despite the changes and additions to Toyota’s original Green Machine, the price remains unchanged at R269 000, with an eight-year/195 000 km service plan included in the price. Toyota’s standard three-year/100 000 km warranty applies, with 24-hour roadside assistance available during the warranty period.
