It seems that Renault has a new RS model up its sleeve and it will be for the budget-conscious shopper. Autocar recently spoke to Renaultsport boss, Patrice Ratti, who confirmed that the Sandero will wear the RS badge in the near future.
There’s no word on what will lie at the heart of the Sandero RS, but Ratti has stated that it won’t be an engine that’s currently in the line-up. He also noted that the light-weight nature of the Sandero means that it won’t need that much of a jump in power.
The Sandero RS will be the entry point into the French company’s performance range, just below a possible hot new Twingo. The Clio and Megane will slot in above it. This forms part of Renault’s plan to grow its performance arm division in emerging markets such as Russia and Brazil. With South Africa forming part of the Sandero market, we don’t see why we wouldn’t be considered for the Sandero RS. We do, after all, have a fondness for hot hatches.
