According to France’s L’Equipe newspaper, doctors at the Grenoble hospital in France have begun the process of waking up stricken F1 legend Michael Schumacher. And apparently Schumi is not only “blinking” but, says Britain’s Sky News, “responding to simple instructions” as Dr Emmanuel Gay performed neurological reflex tests.
The Germans’ manager Sabine Kehm has confirmed that doctors are attempting to ease Schumacher out of his month-long coma. She told the German news agency DPA that she would not “give information about intermediate steps”, having confirmed officially that doctors were trying to wake the 45-year-old.
Grenoble neurosurgeon Stephan Chabardes, who on Wednesday confirmed the awakening reports before they were officially confirmed, was also not commenting on Thursday’s latest developments.
German newsmagazine Focus quotes him as saying: “Please note that I will not comment for reasons of medical confidentiality”.
