More than 300 kg lighter than a Gallardo Superleggera, powered by a screaming 419 kW V10 engine and possessed of a radical design hewn from advanced carbon-fibre reinforced plastic technology; the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is a glimpse into the Sant'Agata Bolognese firm's radical future.
A quick glance will fool the uninformed into believing that Lamborghini’s latest concept is the fighter jet-inspired and ultra-rare Reventon hypercar, and while the matte finishing and sharp lines might add to that belief, the Sesto-Elemento is more Gallardo overall.
The extensive use of carbon-fibre in the Sesto Elemento (Italian for sixth element) in the monocoque structure, and carbon-fibre reinforced plastic for everything else (even the rims, prop shaft and suspension components have been fashioned from the woven material) means that Sant’Agata’s latest raging bull tips the scales at 999 kg. The triangular design elements are not just for show either – as the numerous edges and recesses help achieve excellent aerodynamic properties as well as cooling air to various vents and hidden radiators.
A 419 kW normally-aspirated 5,2-litre V10 that also produces 540 N.m of torque sends power through Lamborghini’s automated e-gear six-speed transmission to all four wheels for a zero to 100 km/h sprint of 2,5 seconds and top speed well in excess of 300 km/h.
Reminiscent of the Diablo GT – introduced just before the dawn of the new millennium – the interior is spartan, with the most significant visual feature being the use of bare CFRP almost everywhere, and just the minimum of hi-tech fabric that adorns the sports seats and the steering wheel rim. The steering wheel and pedals are electrically-adjustable, while the instrumentation (mainly road, and engine speed as well as a few other engine vitals) is presented in a digital format. The centre console features only three buttons – engine start, lights and to engage reverse gear.
"The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento shows how the future of the super sports car can look – extreme lightweight engineering, combined with extreme performance results in extreme driving fun. We put all of our technological competence into one stunning form to create the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento," says Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
